Sensis choose Excelior

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Excelior today announced the 250 positions at its Burnie contact centre are now safe, with the company approved as a successful tenderer of Sensis’ Voice business support services.

“I am absolutely delighted to advise that Sensis has notified Excelior today of their successful tender for its Directory Assistance support business,” said Excelior chief executive, John Watkinson. “Details of the contract are still being finalised, however this ends a period of uncertainty for our Burnie employees over the future of the centre. I thank everyone involved for their loyalty and patience throughout this period.”

Mr Watkinson said that Excelior’s strong, long-term working relationship with Sensis, its highly skilled and flexible workforce, proven skills in service delivery and the ongoing support and encouragement of the State Government were key factors in winning the tender.

“On behalf of the staff, their families and the local Burnie community, I’d also like to particularly thank the Tasmanian Premier, David Bartlett, for the State Government’s support of jobs in the region. In many respects, this is a new beginning for the Burnie centre. Although Excelior has been providing support to Sensis from Burnie since 2000, this contract involves new work at the centre and ensures we remain one of the major employers in Burnie."

“With the Sensis work requiring the centre to move to a 24/7 operation, we expect a number of additional jobs will be created in Burnie over time, especially if Excelior is able to attract more new business to Tasmania.” Mr Watkinson said retaining the tender also reflects the unique position of Tasmania as a “near shore” alternative for Australian companies, looking for a high-quality, cost-effective customer contact outsourcing solution.

“There is a compelling business case for mainland companies to look again at Tasmania, where they can access state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure, a well-educated and trained Australian workforce, at a highly competitive price within the same time zone.”
